Meditopos is the University of Michigan Interdisciplinary Workshop on Mediterranean Studies. Each semester the workshop examines a range of Mediterranean and cross-disciplinary texts, while also organizing campus-wide events including conferences, film series, and visiting lectures.
The workshop was founded in 2009 by students from the departments of Comparative Literature, Near Eastern Studies, and Anthropology. Today we bring together graduate students and faculty from across the University, including scholars of literature, history, art, and anthropology, with special emphasis on forging links with Michigan’s Mediterranean Initiative, a faculty cluster in Mediterranean Studies. We welcome a broad range of perspectives on the Mediterranean and its cultures.
The core of our mission is to create a space for graduate students to engage with current scholarship on the Mediterranean and with one another’s work. Additionally we host a biannual conference on the Mediterranean for graduate students and junior faculty.
